If you have questions about the process, you can contact Westerman 学前教育 and 家庭的中心’s Intake Coordinator, 苏珊Dziedzic, at 734-997-1245 ext: 56506 and she can answer your questions and help guide you through the process.

The evaluation process: 苏珊 will schedule an Intake meeting via Zoom to gather more information, review the process more in depth, review eligibility possibilities, and enrollment requirements. The next step will be an observation in your child’s preschool, or wherever they spend their day, and a developmental screener administered. This information is taken to the assessment team to review and determine areas of development to be assessed. When this information is determined, a formal request to complete the evaluation will be completed by your family.

On your appointment date, your child will meet with a specialist(s) while you review your concerns.  A date will be set at this initial meeting to review the results of the completed evaluations, 30 school days after permission to evaluate has been given.  The specialists who may spend time with your family over the next 30 school days can include an early childhood special education teacher, an occupational therapist, a speech and langu年龄 therapist, 一个物理
therapist, school psychologist, and/or school social worker. Assessments may occur at Ann Arbor 学前教育 and 家庭的中心, at your child's daycare, at your child's preschool, through video conferencing, and even over the phone.  The location of your assessment is based on Covid-19 health restrictions and related school district policy. 

You may be asked to complete various rating scales and/or to supply short videos of your child demonstrating specific skills. During the evaluation process, the specialists will get an overview of your child’s skills in one or more of the following areas:

Langu年龄     Articulation     Sensory     Cognitive Functioning    Pre-Academics    Play    Social   Gross  and Fine Motor

   
After the assessments have been completed, we will sit down with you and discuss your child’s performance. The evaluation results will determine eligibility for special education services. 如果你的 child is found eligible for services, we will develop an individualized education plan (IEP). The IEP will outline your child’s needs and the service(s) required for your child to make progress.
